Washington, D.C. – The Natural Gas Council today released a joint report with the Oil and Natural Gas Subsector Coordinating Council which describes the industry’s resilience and preparedness to defend itself and energy consumers against malicious cyber threats. The companies that produce, transport and deliver natural gas are committed to the security and resilience of the infrastructure that provides essential energy to communities throughout the United States.
In response to the release of “Defense-in-Depth: Cybersecurity in the Natural Gas and Oil Industry,” today, the Natural Gas Council issued the following statement:
“Safety is the top priority for the associations that make up the Council and the companies they represent. Individually and through numerous levels of industry collaboration and the sharing of best practices, the industry has developed comprehensive approaches to cybersecurity to keep America’s energy infrastructure safe and operating reliably. This report provides insight for policymakers into the comprehensive cybersecurity programs of the natural gas and oil industry.”

The Natural Gas Council was formed in 1992, uniting all sectors of the natural gas industry to work together toward common goals. The five full members of the Council — the American Gas Association, the American Petroleum Institute, the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America, the Independent Petroleum Association of America and the Natural Gas Supply Association — collectively represent nearly all the companies that produce, transport and distribute natural gas consumed in the United States. Leadership of the NGC rotates annually, with the Natural Gas Supply Association leading the Council in 2018. www.naturalgascouncil.org
