IPAA Applauds Trump Administration for Changes to OOOOb/c, Recognizing Vital Role Marginal Wells Play in U.S. Economy

LUBBOCK, Texas — Edith Naegele, President & CEO of the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA) issued the following statement today following President Trump’s announcement that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will revise burdensome methane regulations affecting oil and natural gas producers:

“IPAA was honored to join President Trump and Administrator Zeldin for the announcement of revisions to federal methane regulations that will reflect the realities facing America’s independent oil and natural gas producers.

“As originally written, the regulations would have placed an outsized burden on independent producers and could have threatened the continued operation of hundreds of thousands of marginal wells nationwide. The result would have been felt far beyond the wellhead, impacting workers, small businesses, landowners, local governments, and the communities that depend on domestic energy production.

“From small towns to major producing regions across the Lower 48, marginal wells are the backbone of a uniquely American energy success story. While often overlooked, these wells account more than 75% of producing wells in the United States and collectively provide a meaningful share of our nation’s domestic oil and natural gas supply. Marginal wells support family-sustaining jobs, generate critical local tax revenue, and help ensure that American energy remains reliable, affordable, and secure.

“America’s independent producers embody the innovation, grit, and determination that power our nation. We applaud the Trump Administration for taking a thoughtful look at OOOO and recognizing the vital role that marginal wells play in supporting American jobs, strengthening local communities, and enhancing our nation’s energy security.

“Following the recent consolidation of IPAA and DEPA under the IPAA banner, we are proud to speak with an even stronger voice on behalf of the independent producers whose hard work fuels our economy, powers our communities, and strengthens our nation’s energy security. The EPA’s action reaffirms that America’s energy leadership is built not only by the largest producers, but also by the hundreds of thousands of marginal wells and the men and women who operate them every day. Their entrepreneurial spirit, commitment to responsible development, and dedication to keeping America powered deserve recognition and support.”
