Event Details

This is the 8th year that IPAA has offered its highly-rated Oil and Gas Overview Course at NAPE, in partnership with Energy Training Resources. We strongly recommend this course for all new employees and anyone that has never had a solid overview of the industry that connects the various functional and commercial components. Many of the people that attend this course have several years of experience.

The course focuses on upstream and midstream activities with emphasis on U.S. unconventional development. For example, attendees will learn the difference between conventional and unconventional, the most-active development areas, why shale and tight rock required horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing, an example of horizontal well spacing regulations, how a horizontal well is drilled and completed (including hydraulic fracturing and flowback), and an animated tour of a modern unconventional production facility.

The course is organized in the following sections:

  • Industry structure
  • Petroleum geology and exploration
  • Mineral rights and leasing
  • Drilling and completion
  • Development and production operations

The course was first developed 12 years ago and has been continuously improved and updated. It incorporates extensive use of rich media such as video, animations, graphics, photos and physical samples.

The course instructor has broad experience gained over many years in the industry, has been directly involved in course development, and can answer questions across a wide range of topics.

The course qualifies for AAPL and CPE credits.

Proceeds benefit the IPAA Educational Foundation.
