A majority of Americans now favor energy production as a top priority for America, over environmental protections. According to a new Gallup poll, “The current data represent a continuing shift in opinion toward energy production….”
Energy production edges out the environment as a priority by 7 points (50% to 43%). This is good news for oil and gas producers, and it seems like the Obama Administration is listening, as it has recently announced opening some new offshore areas for exploration and production.
What the poll doesn’t tell us is that energy production and environmental protection aren’t mutually exclusive. In other words, we don’t have to sacrifice the environment for more American oil and natural gas. For more information on our environmental record, click here.
